Heating cable insulation

Proper insulation of heating pipes can save a lot of energy with comparatively little effort, especially in older heating systems.

The insulation potential of the heating system depends on its size, of course, but is often underestimated. Especially if the pipes run through cool basement rooms, a lot of energy can be saved through good insulation. The Energy Saving Ordinance (EnEV) even stipulates that heating pipes in unheated rooms must be insulated, but not if the pipe runs completely through heated rooms.

As a rule, insulation hoses or insulation shells made of various materials are used for insulation:

  • Plastic
  • Mineral wool
  • Rubber

Rubber in particular is especially suitable for curved pipe systems.

The following steps are followed for proper insulation:

  • Measure lengths and calculate material requirements
  • Turn off the heating system and let it cool down
  • Cut the insulation shells
  • Attach insulation shells
  • Insulate curves and obstacles
  • Glue interfaces
